Choosing between peel-and-stick, clay-coated and smooth nonwoven
Same PVC-free promise, three different jobs. A practical comparison of our wallcovering finishes.
August 18, 2026

All three of our wallcovering families are 100% PVC-free. The difference is how they go on the wall and how the finished surface reads.
Peel and stick
Self-adhesive and repositionable. No paste, no pasting table, no wet edge. It is the right answer where the install has to be fast, quiet or reversible: retail refits, pop-ups, offices in use, feature walls a tenant will want gone. Because the adhesive is on the sheet rather than the wall, panels can be lifted and re-set while you work.
Clay-coated
A coated paper surface built for image quality. The coating holds ink on the surface rather than letting it sink and spread, which is what gives clay-coated media its density in dark tones and its crispness in fine detail. Specify it when the graphic is the point — photographic murals, artwork reproduction, brand walls where colour has to match a guide.
Smooth, nonwoven
A nonwoven substrate: dimensionally stable, tear-resistant and forgiving on a wall that is not perfect. Nonwoven is the workhorse for larger areas and for hospitality and commercial interiors, and it is usually the most straightforward to remove cleanly at refresh time.
A rough decision path
- Needs to come off cleanly, or the wall cannot be pasted → peel and stick.
- Photographic image, deep colours, fine type → clay-coated.
- Large area, commercial durability, imperfect substrate → smooth nonwoven.
- Still unsure → run the product finder, or ask us for samples of all three and print your own file.
The last option is the one we recommend. Six questions in a finder are useful; your own artwork on your own press is definitive.
We manufacture the media. Your print provider prints it — we do not compete with them.
